Support and guidance (Benefits)
I realise how difficult choosing care can be and the worry of meeting the cost. I can advise
on where to find help with care costs and point you in the right direction.
If requested, I can help support you to arrange a Care Needs Assessment. The assessment
is means tested and the local authority will look at your finances and income. This is to
determine how much of a contribution you will need to make towards your care and support
costs.
It is important to note that if you are remaining in your own home the means test does not
include the value of your property, unless you decide to move into a care home when the
value of your home will be taken into account.
The local authority should give you a written record of their decision and give you information
on what you will be expected to pay, how much they will be contributing, and how they
reached their decision.
Information for financial assistance
There are a number of central Government and local Council funded options that might be
available to you to help with your care costs. This will however depend on your personal and
financial circumstances.
Separately, attendance allowances are paid by the government. The advice line for
this service is 0800 731 0122 and their website
